Giovanni Castellon is a second generation American of Cuban Heritage from Miami, Florida, where he studied at New World School of the Arts High School and Miami Dance Collective. During his time there, he had the opportunity to learn the works of Ohad Naharin, Jessica Lang, Robert Battle, and Peter London, among others. Giovanni continued his studies at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts as a Kenan Excellence Scholar, where he received his BFA in Contemporary Dance and a Minor in Arts Entrepreneurship. Alongside his training at UNCSA, he has had the opportunity to learn works by Robert Battle, Shen Wei, Ming-Lung Yang, Igal Perry, José Limón, and Grady Bowman. Giovanni has had the opportunity to attend prestigious summer programs such as B12 in Berlin, UNCSA Summer Intensive, and most recently, Perry Mansfield Professional Summer Intensive, where he worked with and was selected for a 2-week apprenticeship with Jacob Jonas The Company. Aside from dance, Giovanni has a strong interest in choreography and directing. He has produced, directed, and choreographed 2 dance-on-film projects named “That’s Life” and “Just Another Day”, where he got the experience of collaborating with multiple artists outside of dance. Additionally, Giovanni has choreographed numerous works during his time at New World and UNCSA. Most recently, Giovanni produced a live performance, where he collaborated with artists in lighting design, sound design, stage management, music, as well as 8 dancers. Giovanni Castellon hopes to continue his passion of dance and the arts through performance and creation opportunities, and he is excited to pave his path in the ever-changing, forever-expanding world of dance.
